Alphons Kannanthanam vs N Jayaraj vs Joseph Vazhackan fights for Kanjirappally. Who will win?

Another constituency in Kerala which is going to witness a tough triangular fight is Kanjirappally Assembly Constituency in Kottayam District. The main reason for this constituency to come to the limelight is that all the three candidates representing the three main political fronts viz NDA, LDF and UDF are popular leaders representing their parties and have proven their poll promises by showing through action.

For the people of Kanjirappally constituency it will be a hard task to choose one candidate from the three. Because even though some of them changed political equations for personal or party benefits, each of them are liked by the people as each contestant is having clean image, good reputation and wide circle in the mandalam.

Alphons Kannanthanam:

Positive: He served as an upright and efficient IAS officer. Contested as an LDF candidate from Kanjirappally earlier and defeated sitting UDF MLA N Jayaraj. Later joined BJP and served as a central minister. Worked exceptionally well for the overall development of the allocated portfolios. No charges of corruption or any negative allegations.

Negative: He contested and won in 2006 as an LDF backed candidate in the same constituency and is going to request people's mandate as an NDA candidate this time. The 100-day-long farmers' strike against the government's changed policies; sky rocketing of prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas and the wicked acts of the Modi-Amitshah government are a drawback for the people to cast their votes in his favour.

Dr N Jayaraj:

Positive: He is the sitting MLA of Kanjirappally who won on UDF ticket in 2016. Implemented many developmental activities. As party (KC-M) switched loyalty to LDF, he is forced to contest in LDF banner this time. He is known as a clean and accessible politician.

Negative: He was elected by the UDF voters of the constituency in 2016. As his party leader Jose K Mani (KC-M) switched loyalty and joined LDF, the voters seem to be angry with Jose which may affect his chances of success.

Joseph Vazhackan:

Positive: He is known as a loyal and dedicated Congress leader. While serving as a sitting MLA, he is also working as the vice-president of the Congress party in Kerala. He owns a very clear image and has a steady political and social outlook. He maintains a good and healthy rapport with all sections of the society. No allegations of any corruption or illegal activities.

Negative: All the drawbacks of the UDF (like groupism, delay in finalizing candidates, love-jihad, importance of muslim league in UDF etc) may affect this candidate also to some extend. Catholic community votes may be divided between the three as all of them maintain good relationship with the Church).

Conclusion: In the present condition, it is opined that UDF candidate Joseph Vazhackan will win Kanjirappally Assembly constituency this time probably on a narrow margin.
