The Loka Kerala Sabha (ലോക കേരള സഭ) was constituted in 2018 by the LDF government of Kerala to conduct events to bring the Malayalees around the world under one platform. The event hosted by the Non Resident Keralites (പ്രവാസി ക്ഷേമം) department (https://norkaroots.org/) is aimed at making use of the knowledge, experience and expertise of the 'Non Resident Keralites' (NRK) for the development of the state. The first meeting was held in Trivandrum on the 12th and 13th January, 2018.
The second edition of the 'Loka Kerala Sabha' summit was inaugurated by the governor of Kerala Arif Mohammed Khan on the 2020 New Year day in the Nishagandhi auditorium in the presence of the chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Assembly Speaker P Sreerama krishnan, other ministers, leading NRI industrialists like M A Yousaf Ali, Ravi Pillai etc. It is to be held on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January 2020.
351 representatives including NRIs from 47 countries and NRK delegates from 21 states are participating in the current summit along with members of the Assembly, members of the Parliament from Kerala and other dignitaries.
It was after the first 'Loka Kerala Sabha' meet only the Communist government's red tape garroted a poor NRI business man by name Sajan Parayil in Anthoor municipality in Kannur. Even though there were solid proofs and evidences that the chairperson of the municipality p k shyamala was the main culprit that led to the suicide of Sajan Parayil, no action is taken yet against her because of her influence in the CPI(M) ruling party. Protesting to this incident, the UDF legislators in Kerala including the Opposition leader are boycotting the LKS 2nd summit in 2020 as they had resigned from the membership of the KLS. The central Minister from Kerala V Muraleedharan who is another important delegate from Kerala also informed that he would not attend.
But Congress party's national leader Rahul Gandhyi's letter to CM Pinarayi Vijayan congratulating him for holding the event, (which the latter published today) has created surprise and confusion among the state leaders and the party workers!
